Axe is the correct name. A chopper is a slang name for an axe but can also mean a helicopter or a motorbike

An axe is an axe : a wooden handle with a heavy blade set right angle in one end
A chopper can also means an axe , a small one held with one hand , or anything THAT CHOPS.
You can use a chopper to cut meat or vegetables , such as a butcher's cleaver /vegetable chopper
Chopper has many other informal meanings ,such as helicopter ( informal ) bike/teeth ( slang)
