What is the meaning of "on-the -ground" in this sentence?
MBWA is really useful, at kind of filling in the blanks , you know, getting a good on- the -ground sense of how your products are used and how people need to respond to them.

My feeling here, based on what you posted...
"on the ground" means:
strong
solid
"on the ground" in this case seems similar to "on the level"
meaning:
level
rooted
secure
sound (as in strong)
