I'm a big fan of To Kill a Mockingbird. That one is a classic novel, full of historical and cultural significance.
For something more modern, however, I deeply enjoyed one called We Are the Ants. It's by Shaun David Hutchinson.

I love The Giver, by Lois Lowry. It's a young adult classic, so the level is fairly easy. I like to read it for language learning practice because I already have a context for the story in my brain.

First and last novel "The Alchemist" based on a young Andalusian shepherd in his journey to Egypt, after having a recurring dream of finding treasure there. You should read it and i hell know you gonna love it just for his great story and a boy dream.
