A vessel for the devil? Could you explain to me the meaning of "a vessel for the devil", please? Could it mean "a messenger from the devil" or something similar? Does "vessel" relates to a boat or to a vein in this case? Maybe to flowing liquid in general? I've found some sentences where "a vessel to God" is used. However, I'm not any closer to the correct meaning by that. It's from a documentary about heavy metal. Here are the lines: Religious groups launched their own crusade against heavy metal. They feared it was a vessel for the devil and had created a satanic epidemic among teenagers. Thank you in advance.

A vessel is anything which carries something. According to these religious groups, heavy metal is like a kind of Trojan Horse, if you are familiar with the Greek/Roman legend. It is a way of carrying evil into the the community of young people and infecting them with satanic ways.

Other definition of vessel: a hollow container, especially one used to hold liquid, such as a bowl or cask. Vessel (in the U.S.) usually refers to one of 2 things: 1) a physical thing like a ship/boat, bowl/jar, or basically any physical thing that is used to transport a physical thing from one place to another 2) refers to something that carries a message from one place/person to another. This can be physical like print in a newspaper or a person who delivers the message by word of mouth (this use of vessel is not used often in the U.S.)

It is something or someone that the devil can use for his purposes. The synonym will be the word "tool".
