What's the main meaning of Render? I know it has lots of meaning but generally speaking i'm wondering which one is used more than others. In addition , in these sentences below does Render mean Cause and bring back?? Email has more or less rendered the fax machine obsolete She rendered back his gift

In the first sentence about the email, 'rendered' is used in the context of what it has made the fax machine in terms of functionality. In fact you could use the word 'made' in place of 'rendered' in that sentence. The second sentence, 'She rendered back his gift.' Doesn't sound correct at all. Instead you could try, 'She returned his gift.' or 'She gave back his gift.'
