When and how do you use neither?

Mother: You can EITHER go work for your grandfather, or go to university. You: I will do NEITHER, because I'm going to be a singer in Hollywood and you can't stop me. I don't know how else to explain it other than with examples. I'm sorry.

When you say neither you're saying no to the options presented as long as there is more than one. You would use neither in circumstances requiring a choice. " would you like steak or chicken for dinner." Response "neither of those options sound very good."
