Can 'much' modify the uncountable noun of 'trial'?
The over-punctual can be as much a trial as the unpunctual.

This is another sentence where there are words that are implied, not said. I never realized we do this so much! Lol.
PEOPLE WHO ARE over-punctual can be as much a trial as PEOPLE WHO ARE unpunctual.
But yes, to answer your question, "as much" can modify "a trial".
