찾다 vs 발견하다 What's the difference between these verbs? The dictionary translates them both as "to find". Thank you!

찾다: to search; to find; to look for; to locate; to ask for 발견하다: to discover; to spot 찾다 is to find something you knew of its exsitence while it isn't the case with 발견하다. 지난 주에 잃어버린 공을 찾았다; I found the ball I lost last week 콜롬부스는 아메리카 대륙을 발견하였다; Colombus discovered American continent.
