찾다 vs 발견하다
What's the difference between these verbs? The dictionary translates them both as "to find". Thank you!

찾다: to search; to find; to look for; to locate; to ask for
발견하다: to discover; to spot
찾다 is to find something you knew of its exsitence while it isn't the case with 발견하다.
지난 주에 잃어버린 공을 찾았다; I found the ball I lost last week
콜롬부스는 아메리카 대륙을 발견하였다; Colombus discovered American continent.
