It's an unusual word. Most native English speakers wouldn't know it. I didn't know it. I looked it up in a dictionary. Now I know it.
"Hypernym: A word whose meaning includes the meaning of a more specific word; for example, 'animal' is a hypernym of 'elephant.'"
