Which one is correct? That was a really lovely food/meal. Please let me pay for you. I think "food" sounds better. I would choose "food" ( things that people and animals eat, such as vegetables or meat).

You sit down to eat a 'meal' Not a 'food' So the answer is 'meal'

Food is an uncountable noun, so you would say "That was really lovely food." It is probably better to say "That was a really lovely meal" since a meal usually refers to the occasion rather than just the food.
