What is the difference between "los" and "gehen"?

"los" is only used as go for the start of a competition e.g.: "3, 2, 1, Los" or like go when you have to be fast e.g.: "los, beeil dich" which means "go, hurry up, its used as anrequest or an command. While "gehen" is pretty much used like the verb "go".
