Hi, Ryan. An assertion is more general. It's simply any positive declaration: "The book is amazing." As allegation is a more specific and nuanced form of assertion; one for which there is virtually no proof. It often takes an accusatory tone. In fact, allegations are often thought of in a legal sense as being some kind of accusation that the accuser seeks to prove. I hope this helps.
