How do you ask about the price of things? If I went to a chinese store, pointed at something, and said, "这是多少?" Would that be correct?

sellers are able to know what you mean in most situation. but a more accurate way is: 这个多少钱/这个卖多少/这个价格是多少

你好,苏文丽! You'd need to ask 这多少钱? if you want to know its price. Literally translated, this says "this more less money" a.k.a. "this how much." That's why it's common for Chinese who don't speak a lot of English to ask "This how much?"
