요즘 and 최근? What is the difference between 요즘 and 최근? Thank you in advance :)

Lot of Koreans say that they are synonims, but I have found this explanation: 최근 is simply "recently", referring to something that happened recently in the past. 요즘 is "these days" and refers to something that happened recently and continues to happen currently.
