play off one another Does "play off one another" mean "give form to one another"? Context: Some surfaces are modelled, but the majority of her forms play off one another through the vibration of contrasting colours and fairly crisp but wavering contours.

"Play off one another" here probably means her art provokes a visual reaction due to the contrast from the shapes and colours. It probably does not mean "give form to one another" here, more like a description for mental stimulation from looking at a visual spectacle.
