What is the rule of determining animacy of a noun?
1. Why "brydż"(bridge game) is animate-masculine?
2. What does "na równe nogi" mean in the following sentence?
Zerwałem się na równe nogi.

We use in Polish declination for animate-masculine for most of the games like poker, brydż, bilard, tenis, futbol erc. Is not any reason for that, just custom.
2. That means to stand up very quickly (like a jump) when you sitting and you are suprised or in danger.
