your perceptions of Americans from watching TV We had a class discussion of how other people perceive Americans through TV shows (or what now seem to be BBC spinoffs). What ideas do you get about the American culture from the shows you usually watch?

Funny that you ask. I am an American. I lived and taught English in Japan for 4 1/2 years. While I was there, I was frequently reminded how "dangerous" the USA is. Also, I saw lots of violence in television and movies. When I returned to the USA, I was a little fearful. It took me a few weeks to remember that it isn't really so dangerous here.

chpr1 is the classic 'Ugly american'. Rude, obnoxious, loud and demanding with no regard for others. So sad that he ruined relations with the polite Japanese people. No wonder he was forced to return to America.
