"Près" is more a notion of location/distance
"Je suis près de la maison / I am near the house"
than
"Auprès" is also a notion of location/distance but concerning a person you are with
"Je suis auprès d'elle / I am with her (close to her)"
It means that you are with someone for him/her/them or someone is with you for you.
For example "Je serai auprès de toi pendant ton hospitalisation"
So you will not say "Je suis auprès de la maison" but "Je suis près de la maison"
And also "Je serai auprès de toi, aussi longtemps que tu en auras besoin"
You could also meet the word "Proche" which looks like "Près" and "Auprès"
For example "Je suis proche de toi". It can means that "I am close to you" or "I am near you"
Or "Nous sommes proches l'un de l'autre / We are close to each other"
