Heartbroken and Heartbreaking ??? What's the different between Heartbroken and Heartbrreaking? They're both Adjectives and have the same meaning " extremely sad". I wonder how can we use these words correctly? How to compare these words? Thanks!

Joseph gave some great examples. Another way of saying it is that 'heartbreaking' describes a situation, and 'heartbroken' describes a person (or possibly an animal) Or - 'heartbreaking' describes a cause, and 'heartbroken' the result!

the story was heartbreaking (to me), The story left me (myself)heartbroken. That situation is heartbreaking (to me), he was heartbroken (himself)when his partner left.
