Maybe and Perhaps are essentially the same, with perhaps being slightly more formal. Really it would be personal preference only when choosing between these words.

I've been told that perhaps is mostly used when you are thinking loud and maybe when you point to possibility.
For example woman is choosing dress to wear, she has one dress in each hand, she is trying them using "this perhaps that" other person suggests "maybe that one suits you better". I'm not sure whether I've helped you :)

Hey, Alek!
They are interchangeable, or at least I can't imagine a sentence where "maybe" can work and "perhaps" can not.
There is a suggestion of putting the word "perhaps" in the middle of the sentences whereas "Maybe" can only be used in the beginning or in the end of a sentence, but a native-speaker could confirm it with accurately.
I hope this helps!

They mean the same thing. "Perhaps" is slightly more formal sounding.
