Can 聞く mean both ask and hear in the following?: 加藤さんの電話番号を聞いておいてくれました。
If not, can you make a similar sentence with the other meaning of 聞く? Thanks..

kiku has several meanings, however, if it is written as 聞く, then this きく often means listen or hear.
When you say kiku for asking, it is basically written like 訊く as well as 聞く.
so, your title has something ambiguous. 1.Someone was kind to ask 加藤さん his telephone number for me. 2. Someone was kind to obtain 加藤さん's name from 加藤さん for me.
I hope it helps you understand this difference.
