Incredible can also mean unbelievable in the sense of not worthy of belief. It comes from the Latin roots "in" meaning "not" and "credere" meaning "to believe." Example: "His story is incredible. It is obvious that he is lying." From this fundamental meaning of "incredible," incredible has been extended to mean "so good that it is hard to believe."
