How formal is the word"cinch"?
I am just wondering whether it would be appropriate to use when writing something formal.
My instinct is that its literal meaning, a string or a belt, is formal enough to be used in writing. But the figurative meaning, something easy or a sure thing, is more informal and mostly only used in casual conversations.
Just want to make sure though.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi there!
You are right: this word can be used formally when writing to describe a belt or string.
But if you are referring to a figurative meaning, you should only use it in conversation as it is very informal, almost slang!
