How to say "by then" in French when discussing the past? Bonjour, I'm writing a summary of a literary piece and would like to say that by the time something had occurred, it was already too late. WordReference says that it would be "d'ici là" but I don't think that's correct because such a term would be used to discuss an event in the future, not the past.

Could you give a few more details about the sentence you are trying to write, there're probably many different ways to say it and not just one fixed term.

Hi Sara.. I think you can use "depuis", "à l'époque" or "à partir de ce moment".. but it depends on the meaning of the sentence.. I hope I was useful :))
