niño/niña =kid, little boy/girl
chica/chica= boy/girl
But "niño/niña" can be used in some regions/countries among adults to express love, similar to "baby" or "sweetheart" in English. In some regions in Spain you can say mi niño"/niña" to your boyfriend or girlfriend.:)
