Please help me choose the correct verb tense. Thanks. CONTEXT: In sentence #1, the next game has not yet started. The speaker says sentence #2 at 5:00. QUESTION: It seems to me that the tenses in capital letters should be the same in both sentences. Could anyone please explain why they are different? If my guess is correct, then what tense should be used in both sentences? SENTENCES: 1. If I hadn’t broken my leg, I [WOULD BE] playing in the next game. 2. If we hadn't got a flat tyre we [WOULD HAVE BEEN] arriving at 5:30. As it is, we will be arriving around 6:00.
