How are we supposed to buy things like homes and cars if we have very little at the end of each month for savings?
How are we supposed to buy things like homes and cars if we save the little money at the end of each month?

Sentence 2 is incorrect. You can’t write “save the little money”. You could rewrite it to:
How are we supposed to buy things like homes and cars when we can only save a little (at the end of) each month?
