I just don't get why this ne is used in an affirmative sentence here:

"Et maintenant, poursuivit Bill d’une voix tendue, tu crains que Bellefleur n’essaie de m’imputer la mort de ta grand-mère."

I know exactly what the sentence means I just don't understand the use/point of the n' here.
