why is Hagrid's job called a Gamekeeper?
Please, correct my conclusions that I've made based on the information I read on the Internet.
1. Animals that are hunted for sport or entertainment are referred to as game (large or small).
2. I'm now reading a book called 'The Hunger Games' and the main Character always goes to the woods to hunt to feed her family. She always referred to any animal she approached or killed as "game". This interferes with the point 1 because it's neither a sport nor a pleasure, just a means to survive.
3. Here's Hagrid that takes care of the Forbidden Forest on the Wizarding school's property. But not only that. He appears to escort the first years to the castle, brings in a dozen of New Year trees, etc.
No one is hunting the animals in the Forest, so why is his job called 'Gamekeeper'?

Hi snarling_wolfy,
"Game" has several meanings in English.
The name of the novel, "The Hunger Games," refers to a sport or competition, like the Olympic Games or a board game like chess.
The second meaning, as in Katniss's hunting, refers to wild animals. Hagrid's job title, as gamekeeper, shows that he takes care of wild animals.
In some countries, like South Africa, people go to a game reserve to see elephants, rhinos, zebras, and other wild animals. You might not hunt or eat them, but they are still wild animals.
So, simply put: Hunger Games = sport or entertainment. Gamekeeper = takes care of wild animals. Game = wild animals.
Hope this helps!
