Could you please suggest me a Chinese name?
As a matter of fact, while learning a language, having a nickname in that language helps learners to feel "in the part". I've recently started studying Mandarian Chinese and therefore I'd like to have a Chinese name, somehow close to my real name if possible.
My actual name is Silvia (read: seel-vee-ah), that means "coming from the forest". Do you have any suggestions? If so, thanks in advance!

how about 施薇(shi-wei)?
施 (shi) is a normal family name for Chinese people, and it's pronunciation is just like "seel"
薇 (wei) is just like "veea" . by itself it stand for a kind of little plant and often to be seen in a girl's name, it means delicate pretty and talented.
when we have a english nickname, we always find some words which pronunciation close to the actual one, and have a nice meaning. Do u agree with me ?

Silvia
西尔维亚(斯尔维雅) OR 斯幽维雅
The name of '西尔维亚 (斯尔维雅)' is transliteration name of Silvia in two or three English Chinese dictionaries.
But in fact the pronunciation of it to compare with Silvia sounds like incorrect fully.
The name of '斯幽维雅' is transliteration certainly also,but it sounds great.
Well,my point is here.
Silvia [sil-vee-uh]
斯幽维雅 [斯幽-维-雅]
斯 sī
“斯”此也;
此,这,这个[this]
The meaning of the word of '斯' is 'this'.
幽 yōu
意指深远僻静
The expanding meaning of the word of '幽 ' is an out-of-the-way undisturbed place, just like remote and deep forest
维 wéi
同“唯”,即独[only]
The meaning of the word of '维' is 'only'.
雅 yǎ
美好的,高尚的
The meaning of the word of '雅' is 'fine'.
Silvia=斯幽维雅
Sil-vi-a [sil-vee-uh]
斯幽-维-雅=This remote and deep forest is only fine.
