Are there any differences among"mainly","primarily"and"principally"?

I can't think of any, except differences in register and "tone." Checking a dictionary, I notice that the entry under "chief" lists "main, primary, principal" as synonyms.

Hello, Baron. While those words share the same meaning, the word “principally” is not used nearly as often as the other two. I don’t remember the last time I read that word.
