Business speaking 申し訳ありません。お知らせするのを忘れておりました。
Non business すみません。知らせるのを忘れてました。

O-Oh, it is an awkward situation. There must be many ways to say this, but if I were you, I would say...
大変申し訳ございません。お知らせするのを失念しておりました。
=たいへんもうしわけございません。おしらせするのをしつねんしておりました。
=Taihen moushiwake gozaimasen. Oshirasesuru nowo shitsunenn shite orimashita.
= I am terribly sorry. (However,) I forgot to inform (you).
*失念する(しつねんする Shitsunenn suru) is another expression which means "forget".
