아/어서, 기 때문에, (으)니까, (으)려고, 기 위해서, 도록 differences
Can someone please explain the main differences between these connectors?
What should I use for this sentence:
“Well then, I should go to New York so I can meet you.”
*그럼, 뉴욕에 널 만나러 가야 돼* (Well, I should go to New York to meet you)Are these correct:1. 아/어서- cause + result; purpose of doing the action; no imperatives2. 려고- purpose of action; no imperatives*(으)러 with moving verbs (오다/ 가다)3. 기 위해서- purpose of action; can be used with imperatives4. 도록- purpose of action; used with imperatives5. (으)니까- reason for action; can be used with imperatives6. 기 때문에- reason for action; can be used with imperatives

Here's how I understand them.
1. -아/어서 = 1) reason or background for an action (시끄러워서 못 자겠다), 2) first stage of a connected action sequence (옷을 잘 접어서 옷장에 넣어두었다).
In both cases the it has a tight to the verb following it.
2. -기 때문에 = "because" - it expresses more logical reason. Also tightly bound to the main clause.
3. -(으)니까 = "seeing/given that ..." - detached from the main clause. It expresses the reason or background situation as seen by the speaker for doing something.
4. -려고 = "(in order) to" - shows the motivation for any an aciton (of any kind).
5. -러 = "(in order) to" - shows the motivation for a movement-related action, like going, coming, visting, etc.
6. -기 위해서 = similar to -려고 but more formal.
-(으)니까 is intended for imperative sentences or to make a decision-influencing statement by assessing things from the perspective of here and now. -러 is another construct which can be used with imperatives sometimes. The others can't be used in imperative sentences, although there are exceptions.
Examples:
- 다음 주가 형 생일이니까 저희 집에 오세요. (O) - Natural
- 다음 주 형 생일에 축하해주러 집에 오세요 (O?) - Okay, though not the best.
- 다음 주가 형 생일인데 집에 오세요 (O?) - Okay, a little odd sounding.
- 다음 주가 형 생일이어서 / 생일이기 때문에 집에 오세요 (X) - Bad.
- 다음 주에 형 생일에 축하하려고 / 축하해 주려고 / 축하하기 위해서 집에 오세요 (X) - Bad.
=> 다믐 주가 형 생일이어서 / 생일이기 때문에 집에 오시면 좋겠어요 (O?) - Okay (an invitation, not imperative)
- 친구는 몸이 아파서/아프기 때문에 오늘 학교 못 온댔어요/온대요. (O)
- 친구는 몸이 아프니까 오늘 학교 못 온댔어요/온대요. (X) - describing a past situation with the present thinking.
- 친구는 몸이 아프니까 오늘 학교 못 올 거예요. (O) - applying present situation for one's current thinking.
“Well then, I should go to New York so I can meet you.”
=> 그럼, 너 만날 수 있게/만나게 뉴욕(에) 가야 되겠다. (okay)
“Well then, I should go to New York to meet you.”
=> 그럼, 너 만나러 뉴욕(에) 가야 되겠다. (more clear)
