Sentence Pattern for 는 편이 낫겠다
What would be the sentence structure for 차라리~하는 편이 낫겠다?
I know it means "I'd rather" but why are the following sentences so different?
1> TV를 보느니 차라리 낮잠을 자는 게 낫겠다.
2> 친구를 잃느니 돈을 버리겠다.
3> 이런 추운 날씨에는 집에 있는 편이 낫겠어
- Why does the 1st sentence have 차라리 but the others don't?
-Why does the last sentence have 편이 낫겠다 but the others don't?
-Why do the 1st 2 sentences have 느니 but the others don't?
When I look up 느니, 차라리, and 편이 낫겠다 separately , I get the same meaning for all of them "I'd rather".

차라리 is adverb. I think 차라리 itself means 'rather (than)'. 차라리..-verb+ 편이 낫겠어 is usual form. But sometimes 차라리 is omitted. Otherwise '-낫겠어’ can be omitted but the verb changes to -겠어.
For example, 1-1. TV를 보느니 차라리 낮잠을 자는편이 (or 자는게) 낫겠어. 1-2. TV를 보느니 낮잠을 자는게 낫겠어. (차라리 is omitted) 1-3. TV를 보느니 차라리 낮잠을 자겠어. (-낫겠어 is omitted) These three sentences have same meaning. In my opinion, 1-1 shows a little stronger intention that taking a nap is the better choice.
Number 3 sentence should be like this: 3-1. 이런 추운 날씨에는 (밖에 나가느니) 차라리 집에 있는게(있는 편이) 낫겠어. 3-2. 이런 추운 날씨에는 집에 있는 편이 낫겠어. 3-3. 이런 추운 날씨에는 차라리 집에 있겠어.
(I hope that I can make you understand!)
