Decimal numbers, singular or plural????? Which one is correct? 0.23 cents 0.23 cent Some people say that between number 1 to -1, the unit should be in singular form. While some people say that this should be in plural. https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/decimals-plural-singular.2054431/ After reading their discussion, I am very confused. I got bored reading that discussion, some say this, others that. I say 25 cents, or 1 cent, or half a cent for 0.5 cents. Singular is 1 and I guess to get half or quarter of a cent it must be broken into pieces, so it is plural. Hope this is helpful.

Which one is correct? 0.23 cents 0.23 cent twenty three hundredths of a cent (singular) If you put a $ in front: $0.23 This is pronounced twenty three cents (plural)

That's probably a bad example, as most people would mentally say 'That's half of a cent'! A quick and easy guide: if (knowledgeable) people are arguing about it, then both sides are probably true. I would personally use singular, but I would not consider plural to be wrong.
