My advice: I would personally refrain from learning two similar languages at the same time if you can. For example, I could see someone successfully learning Spanish and Mandarin at the same time. On the contrary, learning Italian and Spanish at the same time seems like a headache!

Just do it.
Any language major will generally have 2 languages.
If you want to speak two. Bite the bullet and just do it.
Admiration. :)
.
Maybe you will see similarities, if you'll talking about two that have the same Germanic/Latin roots?
