Flit - Flutter What's the difference?

To flit is to move from place to place in small movements (like a bird jumping from branch to branch in the same tree). To flutter to make small wing movements. A butterfly often flutters its wings but doesn't fly anywhere. If a group of birds is startled they will fly away "with a loud flutter of wings."
