Well, "faire" is the most usual verb, the one you can use nearly every time you need to translate "to do" or "to make". "Effectuer" has the same meaning, but is less usual. "Fabriquer" is "to manufacture", in a factory, or by a good worker. "Rendre" has nearly nothing to do with "faire". "Rendez l'argent" is "give the money back".
