The meaning of lay down a groove
"I saw her playing drums and I just never heard someone that young, my age, be able to play that hard and play that well and just lay down a groove."
I brought this from an article. What does lay down a groove mean?
Knowing the rhythm well? Getting into the rhythm well?

It means has a good understand of the feeling behind the music ans be able to express that to others. Not just skillful playing. More poetic soulful and deep.

It roughly means that the girls can play the drums well and make a good tune (groove, rock out, good dance beat, etc). In other words, she's a good drummer.
