"Antenna" & "Aerial", which one is American and which one is British?

In the UK, people usually refer to it as an 'aerial'.
In the US, it is usually called an 'antenna'.
I would say that in both countries, these words would be almost interchangeable. Both would be understood in the same way.
Also, in both countries, 'an antenna' or 'antennae' (plural) are the two things coming out of an insects head.
