He weds her?
I just saw they use "wed" as "marry" but how come it's not commonly spoken?
He weds her. = He marries her.
Is it newspaper language only?

Yes, this is more formal and used in literature and newspapers. In spoken English, we would say "marry" or "get/got married" But we use 'wedding' (the marriage ceremony) all the time
