how to say to the driver when I hail the wrong bus? The other day, I was waiting for the bus at bus stop, and then I saw the bus coming in my way, so I hailed the bus. when it pulled in, I realized that it was not the bus I was waiting for. But I was too embarrassed, and for a moment I did not know what to say to the bus driver, because he said to me, " G'day mate, hop on." So I got on the bus, and sat on the seat behind the driver. So what should I say if I encounter the same situation in the near future?

I guess you are living in Australia. I'm not Australian but I would say, "Oh, sorry. I think this is the wrong bus. I made a mistake. Sorry." Then I would smile and walk away. I'm British so I would be quite apologetic like that.

Don't get on and just say: "I'm sorry. Wrong bus. Thank you anyway" And carry on.

"Sorry! (Forgive me!). The wrong bus." "This is a wrong bus for me." "My mistake! Wrong bus!" "I caught a wrong bus! I need another one" "I caught a wrong bus, it seems. I need to change buses." "Excuse me! But I would like to take different bus." "Oh no. Seems this is a wrong bus."

"Sorry, mate. Wrong bus." All with a smile, of course :) Or, "Sorry, my mistake ... wrong bus"

Or in New Zealand? Another option: You could say something like "I want to go to xxx. Do you go there?". If the driver says 'no', they will carry on.
