好吃 vs. 好喝 Hi, I recently learned that 好喝 is the correct adjective to describe when a liquid tastes good and that 好吃 is for food items. (Cantonese: 好食 hou sik, 好饮 hou yam) If I mistakenly said 这杯茶/咖啡很好吃, is it a *big* mistake in Chinese? Because in my native tongue (Korean and other languages like Persian 波斯语 = 伊朗话), the distinction between eating and drinking sometimes isn't clear cut, especially in the spoken language so we can say things like "eat water", etc. Thank you.

这杯茶/咖啡很好吃 is mistake in Chinese. 这杯茶/咖啡很好喝 or 这杯茶/咖啡不错 is idiomatic in Chinese. 喝 (drink)is for liquid in Mandarin, like tea, water, wine, coffee, soup, etc. But sometime you might hear 吃水(eat water)in some dialect in China. 吃(eat)is for solid in Mandarin, like rice, meat, fish, shrimp, etc. BTW,好吃好喝 combined together refers to treat guests well.

it's normal to make mistakes in learning foreign languages. just like Chinese may say "drink soup" in English (but it should be "eat" actually). that because in Chinese we use 喝 as the verb to describe "eat soup". So don't get frustrated. I always make mistakes in learning English as well. Enjoy your learning process is much more important than avoid ing making mistakes

Yes I would say it's a "big" mistake. Just like in English, when we say something tastes good, it could refer to both 好吃 and 好喝.
