devoured their gossip
People scooped up these tabloids, devoured their gossip.
Does "to devour their gossip" mean to read these tabloids quickly and eagerly, or to talk and gossip about what they've read?

The word DEVOUR actually means to eat something in a rush, greedily, gobble it up. So to "devour their gossip" means they "gobbled up" the gossip. It doesn't have anything to do with spreading the gossip.
