英語で「手繰りゆく」の意味はなんですか?

I believe this is the line 「月の明かりを手繰りゆく」 from the song 「月の舟」.
As Jun000-san commented, 手繰りゆく means "going forward...by pulling in rope."
In this song lyrics 月の明かりを手繰りゆく, we have a poetic imagery:
on the dark sea, the boat is going forward as if by pulling in the moonlight.

I haven't heard 手繰りゆく before, I think. But it is a word made of 手繰る(to pull in) and 行く(to go). Think of going forward against winds by pulling in rope? That's kind of 手繰りゆく, I guess.
Or maybe it means to keep hauling something continually.
