would like to have done, would love to have done, would hate to have done
Hi. I have some questions related to would like to have done structure
The book says
I would like to have done something = I regret now that I didn't or couldn't do it.
and I can use this structure after would love, would hate, would prefer.
But I don't understand how to translate this.
Q: I would hate to have been in his position -> Does this mean that "I imagine now, if I were in his position, I would hate it"
which means I don't want to be in his position.
Q: I'd love to have gone to the party, but it was impossible -> Is the meaning of 'would love to have done' similar to 'would like to have done'?
Thank you.
