Why "unos/as" is considered to be an indefinite article? The word "una" en "una chica" is the indefinite article because it indicates that there is only one, like "a" in English. However, "unos" en "unos chicos" doesn't mean "more than one" but "some, or "more than one but not too much". I can say "muchos chicos", "pocos chicos", "algunos chicos" etc. Why "unos" is an indefinite article and not all the rest?

Articles make something specific or general. Una chica is an unspecified girl. It does not refer to a girl in particular. La chica is a specific girl in question. Muchos, pocos, and algunos do not serve this function. They indicate quantity and not specificity. In practice, unos and algunos largely mean the same thing, although there are certain situations where algunos is preferred. Some of the books are long. Algunos de los libros son largos. Unos de los libros son largos is possible, although not really used. Somebody in Quora portrayed the difference as this: Algunos means "some", "a few", "a indeterminate number of" - as opposed to "none" Algunos políticos son corruptos → Some politicians are corrupt (… yes, there are some that are.) Unos means "some" - as opposed to "others" Unos niños me insultaron → Some kids insulted me (… some didn’t) https://www.quora.com/Is-there-any-difference-between-unos-and-algunos-in-Spanish I think specificity vs quantity is the idea in their answer as well.

Estimado Geri: Cuidado. "unos chicos" no significa "some, or more than one but not too much".
