tough broad
Hello,
Can anybody let me know the meaning of the expression below?
"She was a tough broad. She drove race cars, raised children, cooked us all dinner, shot that burglar. She is no woman to mess with."
Thank you!

Broad is slang to describe a woman who is very assertive and independent. It's not a super nice/classy way to describe someone, but it doesn't necessarily have a negative meaning/connotation/implication either.
