Was bedeutet "geheuer"?
I already have a pretty vague general understanding of the word "geheuer". I've looked it up in several online dictionaries and they all give me definitions that are part of a larger phrase or expression. For example, one dictionary says that the phrase "Das ist nicht ganz geheuer" means "That's a bit fishy." Another dictionary says that roughly the same things means "to feel uneasy about it." And there's also the word "Ungeheuer", which I know means monster or ogre.
But what EXACTLY does the word "geheuer" mean by itself? Is there an equivalent in English? Or can geheuer only be used as part of a larger phrase or sentence?
I want to have a more precise comprehension of this word. Can someone please explain it to me?

What you wrote is correct.
nicht [ganz] geheuer - unheimlich: der dunkle Wald war mir nicht [ganz] geheuer.
unbehaglich, nicht ganz wohl: ganz geheuer ist mir nicht bei unserem Vorhaben.
verdächtig: irgendetwas kommt mir daran nicht geheuer vor.
For such questiions you could consult Duden (https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/geheuer), though it's a German-German dictionary. You could as welll check out the forum entries in Leo (https://dict.leo.org/englisch-deutsch/geheuer).
