I studied this play, but long ago. I can't see either "gentleman of the road" or "noble robber" in the play text, although there is reference to "the old duke" living "like Robin Hood" in the early scenes, and later to Duke Senior and company as entering "like outlaws" in Act 2 Scene 7, stage directions. No doubt you know that "gentleman of the road", in its older usage, has the meaning of highwayman or armed robber, and evidently Duke Senior and Orlando would both be considered "noble". But I am not sure I understand the drift of your question. Shakespeare is widely loved, I think partly since his texts are so often open to multiple interpretations, and critics have long been able to fit them to their very modern preoccupations and perspectives ...
